The
Fifth Annual Austin Latino Comedy Fiesta Headlining the show is nationally touring L.A. comic Rick Gutierrez, whose long list of comedy credentials includes featured appearances on NBC's "Friday Night Videos" and Showtime's "Latino Laugh Festival". From coast to coast, Gutierrez has "wow-ed" live audiences in top comedy clubs all over the country with his aggressively hilarious and incredibly animated comedic persona. Next destination- Austin, TX! Performing MC duties will be old pro on the national comedy scene, stand-up comic Jesse Pangelinan. A huge hit at last year's Latino Comedy FIESTA, Jesse is back by popular demand with an all-new comedy set for Austin audiences. A laconic underdog and social observer with a sharp self-deprecating wit and flair for the absurd, Jesse has performed his unforgettable act in countless clubs around the country and on national television shows like syndicated stand-up showcase "Funny is Funny" and the hugely successful "Three Amigos Comedy Tour". Joining Pangelinan is rapidly rising comic Peggy Gutierrez. Gutierrez's larger-than-life comedy act explores her life as an ex-nurse, single mother, comedy club manager, actress and singer, and has been nationally featured on such programs as Galavision's "Que Locos". And if three great stand-up comics aren't enough, TEATRO brings a touch of the theatrical with very special guest Ruby Nelda Perez, star of the highly acclaimed one-woman show Doña Rosita's Jalapeño Kitchen. As one of the most beloved Chicana theatre artists in the nation, Perez has performed throughout the U.S., Mexico and Latin America. As this year's Latino Comedy FIESTA audiences will discover for themselves, Perez's deliciously comic solo performances are peppered with the poignancy of cultural pride and her generous servings of one flavorful character after another will leave the spirit nourished with non-stop laughter. And finally, also on the playbill is the always-astonishing troupe, The Latino Comedy Project. Back from triumphant performances in Seattle, San Francisco, Vancouver, and Los Angeles, TEATRO Humanidad's critically acclaimed, award-winning sketch troupe the LCP takes on a vast array of ripe pop culture/political comedic targets, featuring every comedic style from the brashly political, the silly and slapstick, and even the surprisingly musical. Most recently, "The San Francisco Chronicle" Pop Culture Critic James Sullivan called the LCP "hilarious" and "murderously funny." So don't miss the this star-studded comedy extravaganza at the 5th Annual Austin Latino Comedy FIESTA, one night only Saturday, August 23, 2003, 8:00 PM at the historic Paramount Theatre, 713 Congress, Austin, Texas!
