Danu Uribe (also known by her parents as the Immaculate Conception) was born on Mother’s Day in Brownsville, Texas. Danu’s first taste of stardom was as a Kindergartner in Catholic School. During an assembly, she was forced by her older brothers and the nuns to perform an impromptu Indian Rain Dance for the entire student body. That day, Danu understood she was the “chosen one” and that her special powers must be used to rid the world of evil.
Naturally, this led Danu to theatre. She received her B.A. in Drama from Texas Woman’s University where her character work was a stepping-stone for her current, more serious, professionvoice actor for animation, educational software, commercials and film (www.echospeak.com/danu). Most recently, Danu had the pleasure of playing Martin Sheen’s wife in “Flatland: The Movie.”
At a Chanukah party, Danu was introduced to the world of Improvisational Acting and the difference between Matzah and Chametz. Soon, she enrolled and graduated from The Heroes of Comedy School of Improvisational Acting. Later, she attended the Coldtowne Conservatory studying Sketch Comedy Writing.
Offstage, Danu enjoys managing the historic Paramount Theatre. When not schmoozing with the stars there, she fits in well with the mostly Senior Citizen pool of volunteer ushers. During the day, she stays forever young by editing video for Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas with her zombie-loving, comic-book reading co-workers.
Danu was inducted into the Latino Comedy Project (aka The Justice League) in 2005. Of the group, Danu says, “It’s refreshing to be around a group of people that can actually say my name correctly and don’t ever ask the question ‘What are you?’” This Mujer Maravilla has found a perfect fit with the L.C.P. and is very happy to be putting her Lasso of Truth to good use. |
